Oud & Arabian Attars

Oud is the resin that forms in agarwood, and it is the reason Arabian perfumery smells the way it does — dark, slightly smoky and extraordinarily persistent. It is the heaviest family we sell and the one that lasts longest on skin.

How to choose

What oud actually is

Agarwood produces a dark resin when the tree is affected by a particular mould. That resin is oud. It is scarce, which is why real oud has always been expensive.

Wear less than you think

Oud is concentrated. One small dab at the base of the throat is a full application; more is not better with this family.

Cooler weather suits it

Heat pushes oud forward hard. In an Indian summer, keep it to evenings; in winter it is comfortable all day.

It stays on fabric

Oud clings to cloth far longer than to skin. A collar can still carry it after a wash.

Common questions

Why is oud more expensive than other attars?

The raw resin is genuinely scarce — it only forms in a small proportion of agarwood trees — so the material cost is higher than for florals.

How long does oud attar last on skin?

Longer than anything else on our shelf. Most customers report it is still detectable at the end of a working day.

Is oud suitable for daily wear?

It can be, but sparingly and in cooler weather. If you want something for every day, sandalwood or musk is easier to live with.
